Top Chef – the
best chefs compete

Top Chef is an American cooking show. The show is hosted by Kelly Choi. The most celebrated chefs leave their restaurants behind. They come to Los Angeles, California. The chefs compete in several cooking challenges.

The judges include James Oseland (Editor-in-Chief, Saveur Magazine), Gael Greene (New York Restaurant Critic), Gail Simmons (Food and Wine Magazine), and Jay Rayner (Restaurant Critic, The Observer).

One chef will win $100,000 for their favorite charity. Every episode of the show has two challenges. In the QuickFire Challenge, each professional chef prepares a dish in one hour or takes part in a taste test.

In the elimination challenge, the chefs are asked to create a three-course meal using a toaster oven, a microwave, and a hot plate. The chefs get 45 minutes to shop for ingredients and a budget of $150.

The chefs then cook for four judges and a group of guests (e.g. college students). The guests are served first, second, and third course meals. The judges and guests sample the food in a restaurant setting.

The guests also judge and rate the chefs’ dishes. The chefs later meet the judges for feedback. The chefs discuss their experiences from the challenge. The judges use stars to rate each chef.

The chef with most points moves on to the champions round. He becomes one of six finalists on the show. The chefs with less stars are eliminated. They still receive $10,000 for their charity.
