Some documentary-style shows put cast members who don’t know each other into fake living conditions. In Real World cast members are given a specific challenge to overcome.
Temptation Island puts several couples on an island with single people to test their commitment to each other.
- Celebrities: Other kind of “fly on
the wall” shows use celebrities. They show celebrities who live their everyday life like The Anna Nicole Show, The Osbournes, and Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
- Professional Activities: Some documentary-style shows imitate professionals doing their everyday business activities or a whole project on the show. No outside experts appear on the show to help or judge results.
- Dating-based Competition: Dating-based Competition shows record a man who is choosing one woman from a group. Over the period of the show women are removed until the final one is left.
- In Job Search Shows the contestants do different tasks using specific job / business skills. Contestants are judged and then kept or removed by one or more judges.
- Renovation Shows make over part or all of a person’s home or car. This Old House was the first show like this which premiered in 1979.
