The Oprah Winfrey Show is a United States talk show. It is hosted and produced by Oprah Winfrey. It is the highest-rated talk show in the history of American television.
Currently it is the longest running daytime TV show in the United States. It began in September 8, 1986 and had 22 seasons by November 21, 2008. The show is very effective with women.
Many of the topics are on American pop-cultural awareness. The show was added to Time Magazine’s list as a best TV show of the 20th century in 1998.
It made into the Top 50 of the greatest American shows of all time in 2002. Early episodes of the show explored dramatic public matters. Oprah later changed her show to a more positive experience.
It was marked by book club segments, favourite things segment, celebrity interviews, and charitable events. Oprah’s book club segment first had a monthly book highlight with author interviews.
Its popularity caused featured books to go to the top of bestseller lists. Book sales were often increased by a million copies at its peak. Oprah’s favourite things segment is broadcast during the holiday season.
Items personally favoured by Winfrey are given away to the audience. In November 2006 she handed out gift cards of one-thousand dollars and camcorders to people in the audience.
