Hells Kitchen is a Cooking Competition Show

Hells Kitchen is hosted by Gordon Ramsay. The show takes place in two state-of-the-art kitchens and a high-end, luxurious restaurant. The contestants are tested on everything it takes to run a successful restaurant.

The first episode begins with an assignment. They are asked to prepare a dish which reflects them as a person. It is their first chance to impress Gordon Ramsay. The contestants are then divided into a red team and a blue team.

Ramsay picks contestants for each team and hands out the chef’s jackets. For the first main task, the restaurant is open. The customers receive the starters, entrees, and the appetizers. Gordon Ramsay has a drive for perfection in the kitchen.

He may throw away a full plate of food if it’s not cooked the right way. When Hells Kitchen is a failure, Ramsay ends the dinner service early. Then Chef Ramsay chooses a losing team. He uses feedback from customers to choose a contestant to eliminate. Sometimes there is no winning team.

All contestants from one team are safe and one contestant from the other team goes home. One contestant is judged as the best from the worst on the losing team by the chef. He or she decides which two contestants to nominate for elimination.

If a contestant does poorly, he or she may be eliminated during the service. When only five contestants are left, two teams are merged and contestants compete individually. The two final contestants run their own restaurant.

Each contestant chooses the design and menu for their restaurants. Six eliminated contestants return to help the two finalists. Then Ramsay looks at how well the finalists work in the kitchen and with their teams.
