Hells Kitchen ‒ all contestants have the same dream

Hells Kitchen: Season 1 competition starts with 12 people who want to become a master chef. All seasons follow the same format. “The dishes of Hells Kitchen” is a photo tour of the restaurant menu.

Hells Kitchen Season 1 Cast

For the first task the contestants are asked to cook their signature dish. Andrew, Mary Ellen, Wendy, Jimmy, and Ralph didn’t impress Gordon. Next up is Elsie: her dish meets the chef’s standard.

Dewberry, Chris, Jeff, Jessica, and Michael don’t do well while Carolann finally impresses Gordon Ramsay. The contestants are then divided into two teams.

The contestants will have sous chefs, Scott and Maryann to guide them. Ramsay compliments Elsie for good performance. Carolann is the first to leave Hells Kitchen for turning her back on the team.

The next task will teach the teams a lesson on attention to detail. The team which cleans more squid will win the task. The winning team has dinner with chef Ramsay.

The losing team prepares the remaining squid for dinner service. During second dinner service, the red team lost again and Dewberry was next to leave for letting his emotions get in the way.

The new challenge is to cook a five-course meal for VIP guests. The teams visit a grocery store to shop for ingredients. America’s top food critics arrive to help judge the food.

Jeff leaves the show in the middle of dinner service due to his illness. The losing team is blue based on the taste of food. During elimination, Wendy goes home for being inefficient on the meat station.

Both red and blue teams prepare the kitchen for dinner service. Maitre D’ Jean Philippe gives instructions on table setup. It includes a table linen, wine glasses, plates, a set of eating utensils, and napkins.

The assignment is to re-create the sample table in five minutes. The team with fewest mistakes will win. For the forth dinner service, the team which served all customers would be safe from elimination.

Jessica nominated Andrew and Mary Ellen for elimination. Chef Ramsay chose Mary Ellen to go for inconsistency in service.

For the next dinner service, Hells Kitchen is a pasta restaurant. Gordon trains the contestants how to make pasta with dough. The red team’s pasta weighed more and they were awarded an italian outing.

The blue team lost and as the punishment, they stayed to prep pasta for all customers. The next day, teams take turns working in the kitchen and serving diners.

The red team lost for sending out starters on dirty plates. For Michael, nominating his team mates is an easy decision. He picks Elsie, but Chris is the one to go for not living up to the chef’s standard.

The next day contestants do blind tasting to identify flavours. The winning team will be the one which gets more right. The red team enjoys wine tasting with Gordon Ramsay.

The losing team will be responsible for cleaning pots and pans. Chicken, radish, Caesar salad dressing, hamburger, veal sweetbreads, and spinach leaf have to be identified.

For the 6th dinner service, the teams are to design their own starters, main courses, and deserts for the menu. The customers will have a choice of dishes cooked by red and blue teams.

The losing team was determined based on quality of food. Andrew was eliminated for the 6 dishes of halibut returned by customers.

A fruit flambé desert is the new menu item. It will be cooked table side in the dining room. This desert uses sugar, butter, peaches, mango, banana, and la cure.

Each contestant must prepare the fruit desert based on the demonstration. The winner will go on a trip with Chef Ramsay and the losers will stay behind to clean the front.

Jimmy leaves Hells Kitchen for his inability to keep up under pressure and multi-task.

The next challenge is the one that Gordon gives to every new cook. It is to create an original dish from 15 leftovers to achieve cost efficiency and eliminate kitchen waste.

These include beef, chicken wings, macaroni, parsnips, and red wine. Each two contestants will cook in separate kitchens. They will be judged on presentation, taste, and creativity.

Elsie wins the challenge and goes on Good Day TV show. She also gets the opportunity to choose who’s on what station.

The contestants are put under excessive pressure when they are asked to change their cooking stations in the middle of service. Elsie suffers a meltdown and is chosen to go home by the chef.

Michael, Ralph, and Jessica get a wake up call at night to bake bread. With only two hours of rest, the final three must learn how to make a soufflé.

In this assignment, the contestants are to prepare a soufflé in 10 minutes. Ralph wins first place and gets the opportunity to choose an ingredient for the new dish.

Each person will be cooking with one of the following: beef, tuna, or chicken. Michael and Ralph manage to send out main courses and appetizers while Jessica struggles at the deserts.

Gordon Ramsay used comment cards by the contestants’ families to eliminate someone. Jessica’s chicken received the least votes and was one of the last to leave Hells Kitchen.

In the season finale, the restaurant is divided into two parts. Michael and Ralph will design their own half, write their menus, and run the kitchen and the dining room.

Each finalist will have the designer, John Janavs to help with color/texture/fabric/table setup, Maitre D’ Jean Philippe with style of service and uniforms, and sous chefs, Scott and Maryann with the menu.

Chef Ramsay asks the contestants to prepare their signature dishes. Their new dishes will be evaluated by the public: Ralph’s porterhouse steak and Michael’s short rib burger.

For the last dinner service, the former chefs come back and each finalist picks their team. Michael is the winner of Hells Kitchen since more customers preferred his menu.
