Extreme Makeover Home Edition
Helps Families in Need

Extreme Makeover Home Edition is hosted by Ty Pennington. It is produced by Endemol USA in association with Disney-ABC TV Group's Greengrass Television. It provides home renovations for families.

Each episode is about a family that faced a recent or ongoing hardship – such as a natural disaster. A general contractor and his crew are involved in building a house for a family.

The construction process includes interior, exterior, and landscaping. All work is done in seven days. The TV production company pays to send the family on a vacation. If a house needs too much repairs, they take it down and build from scratch.

The film crew records the entire construction process. The materials and labor are donated. Many skilled and unskilled volunteers help speed up the construction process.

During the 2005–2006 season, the show went to areas hit by Hurricane Katrina and helped communities to rebuild homes. The show has been renewed by ABC for the 2009–2010 television season.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition premiered as a thirteen-episode special on December 3, 2003. It is now one of ABC's top-rated series. The show ranked 41st in its first season with 10.6 million viewers per episode.
